The organisations below provide networking opportunities:

Magenta Circle is dedicated to self-employed consultants, and does not have the strict attendance rules that can apply to some networks. There are monthly meetings in different locations, and the aim is to facilitate networking, both for business opportunities, and for mutual support. www.magentacircle.co.uk

The best-known and established networking groups are BRE and BNI.

They have a long track record in this field, and generally work on the basis that you must attend meetings very regularly. They do not normally allow competitors in the same group. However, there are lots of local groups, so this should not be an issue.
